Scoring / Timing

The Salt Lake City Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K has selected the ChampionChip system for the scoring and timing of both the Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K for this year’s event.

ChampionChip utilizes a computerized timing system that records each runner's actual running time. Chip timing starts when participants cross the starting line mat and stops at the finish line. Your finish time is calculated precisely when you cross the finish line mat. Salt Lake City Marathon provides chip timing as a service to all our participants. Only cash prizes are based on gun time.  Division winners are based on chip time.

All participants must pick up their ChampionChip, along with their bib number at the Quality of Life Expo on Thursday, April 17th and Friday, April 18th. If you own a ChampionChip (yellow) and would like to use it for one of our events, please bring it with you to packet pickup. There will be a registration services desk at the expo where you can return the rental ChampionChip (black) and register your personal ChampionChip (yellow).

All ChampionChips must be surrendered at the finish line. Failure to return the timing chip will result in a $20 replacement fee. If you do not wear your chip, you will not be timed. For more information about how ChampionChip timing works, visit www.championchip.com.

Parking/Shuttle To Start

5K Participants are asked to park at The Gateway.  The shuttle pick-up location is on 400 West, at the intersection of South Temple, in front of the Union Pacific Building at The Gateway and will take participants directly to the start in Liberty Park.

Shuttle buses start time TBD.

All participants are urged to get an early start!  You will receive a shuttle schedule at the Quality of Life Expo which includes your designated time of departure. Your departure time will be determined by your bib number. By following your designated time you will guarantee that you’ll get to the starting line on time. To assure an on time start don’t wait until the last minute to board.
