Q: Am I allowed to use my MP3 player during the race?

For the safety of all on the course, we recommend you do not use portable music devices on the course.
However, the utility of them is by no means banned, or barred.

Q: Are Wheelchair/Hand Cycles and Walkers permitted?
A:
Yes, walkers are allowed in the Marathon and Half Marathon and 5k. Wheelchairs and Hand Cycles are only allowed in the marathon and will begin the course 6:10 am.

Q: What are the time limits to complete Marathon?
A:
Streets will re-open approximately 6 hours from the marathon start time (at 1:00pm), allowing participants 6 hours to complete the 26.2 mile course. If needing more time, an early start is available for marathoners only that will allow for 7 hours. You must sign up at time of registration.

There are plenty of parking lots and meters available at and around The Gateway for race participants, volunteers and spectators on race day ,meters on Saturday are Free for two hours. For more information on parking at the Gateway visit www.shopthegateway.com

Q: Is the Marathon & Half Marathon course hilly?
A:
The first nine miles of the course are mostly downhill. The rest of the course has mild upgrades and slight down hills.

Q: Is the course a Boston Qualifier?

Yes, we are certified by the USA Track & Field Association and therefore a Boston Qualifier.

Q: What type of race day transportation is offered?
A:
For Marathoners and Half Marathoners, UTA TRAX will provide transportation to all Salt Lake City Marathon & Half Marathon participants beginning at 4:30am at the Gateway/Energy Solutions Arena stop and all along the TRAX University Line. Each TRAX train is approximately 21 minutes to the starting line.
Marathon participants who have their registration bib with them on Trax, will not be asked for proof of fare purchase.

Q: How many aid stations and what type of fluid replacements are offered?
A:
There will be Mount Olympus Water & Powerade at each of the 16 Aid Stations, as well as at the post-finish area. Water will be provided at all start lines.
First aid will be located at all 16 stations on course, and at the finish line and Finish Line Festival.

We project that over 25,000 people will turn out to watch the Salt Lake City Marathon.

Q: Are the any post-race medical attention/massage therapy and locations?
A:
There will be Medical Support at the Start, Finish, and at along the course. The Medical Tent is located at the Finish line at the Gateway and there will be one in the Finish Line Festival Area. Over 40 Massage Therapists will be located at the Finish Line Festival to assist marathon and half marathon participants to help relax & loosen up tight muscles.

Q: If a participant is unable to pick up their goodie bag at the Quality of Life Expo, can someone else pick it up for them?
A:
Yes, they will need to bring a copy of the participant’s photo ID and a note signed by the individual authorizing the pick up.

Q: Where can I park?
A:
In addition to parking at the Gateway, where the finish line is located, there are several public parking areas around downtown Salt Lake City that are near a TRAX stop. Click Here for a map of public parking lots.

Q: Is there an early start for walkers or race walkers of the Marathon or the Half Marathon?
A:
Yes, for MARATHON ONLY. Early start participants MUST identify themselves by selecting the "Early start" question on the registration form when registering. Only participants who have registered as an early start participant prior to race day will be allowed to start early on race day.
Sag Wagons will patrol the route providing support to these participants. We also suggest that walkers and slower participants consider using a fanny pack that accommodates a water bottle and snacks.
If you plan on participating at a 16 minute pace per mile or slower, please be aware that our permit dictates that the streets that comprise the Marathon route are re-opened to vehicular traffic at 1:00pm, 6 hours from the start of the marathon.
Street cleaning trucks precede the streets re-opening and you will be required to move to the curb lane and/or sidewalk at that time.

Q: What kind of food/drinks are at the finish line? Where is the Finish Line Festival?
A:
There will be Mount Olympus Water, Powerade,Darigold,Paradise Bakery,Creamies,Dannon Yogurt and other food and drinks for replenishment at the finish line.
The Refreshment Area and Finish Line Festival will be held at the north end of the Gateway. There will be food, drink, booths and entertainment provided.

Q: Will portable bathrooms be on the course?

Yes, at the Start line, at all 16 aid stations and at the finish line.

Q: Will Gear Check be available?
A:
Yes.
Gear check areas will be located at the Marathon and Half Marathon starts. Participants will place their gear in their goody bag supplied to them at time of packet pick-up, and identified with their bib #.
Gear bags will be transported to the finish line area for pickup.

Q: Are roller-skates, inline skates, bikes or carriages of any kind allowed to participate in the Marathon?

No, if you are caught on the Marathon course with any of these, you will be directed off of the route.

NO. All runners without Salt Lake City Marathon bibs will be directed off the course immediately.
